The competency framework for “Accelerating Transitions” is the conceptual basis for certifying the competencies required for accelerating transitions, following the commonly accepted Brundtland definition of sustainability: “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. A transition involves profound changes to a system along different dimensions: technological, material, organizational, institutional, political, economic, and socio-cultural. Transitions are typically non-linear processes involving a broad range of actors and unfolding over considerable time-spans. The framework consists of the competencies required to accelerate such processes. A certificate holder therefore will have proven competency in systems thinking, in developing a vision, and will be well-versed in social competencies, capable of implementing changes as well as having the flexibility required for adapting and learning.
